Our Barzona Cattle

Our Barzona cattle are organically raised on prairie shortgrass in semi arid Southeastern Colorado. Our average rainfall is about 11” per year. They always have Vitalex mineral supplement and trace mineral salt available. The calves are small at birth, averaging 40-60 lbs, but they grow quickly and are comparable in size to Angus & Hereford at weaning. They produce superior beef in harsh conditions and when bred to Angus or Hereford, exceptional commercial off spring. By nature, they are easy to work and require very little maintenance.

Having been bred to browse long distances & survive the harshness of Arizona’s climate & arid pastures, when the breed was first introduced nationally, they were criticized for having thin thighs and not being fleshy. But our herd has been further refined over the last 25 years to increase the musculature of the hind quarter & overall fleshiness. We believe that our bulls & heifers are the perfect breeding stock for the western United States. Their hardiness, mothering instinct, tolerance of heat & insects, & ability to gain weight on sparse forage make them THE breed for modern times stressed ranchers. We breed some of our purebred Barzona heifers to Angus & Hereford bulls then sell the cow with calf at side to showcase the outstanding.
